At the National Science Day event on November 27, 2024, Professor Gomika Udugamasooriya delivered a compelling keynote address emphasizing the untapped potential of Sri Lanka’s human and natural resources.

He highlighted the urgent need to reverse the country’s brain drain and invest in research and development (R&D). Professor Udugamasooriya also announced the proposed establishment of the National Institute for Research and Development (NIRD), aimed at integrating efforts across ministries and institutes to maximize the economic value of natural resources.

This initiative reflects a long-term vision to transform Sri Lanka into a global leader in innovation and development.
