The Government of Sri Lanka has appointed Professor Chrishantha Abeysena as the new Minister of Science and Technology.

Professor Abeysena, a distinguished academic from the University of Kelaniya with 28 years of service, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. His career highlights include serving as the Director of the Post Graduate Institute of Indigenous Medicine (2021–2024) and Deputy Director of the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo (2013–2014).

With an extensive educational background, Professor Abeysena holds advanced degrees in Community Medicine, Buddhist Studies, International Relations, and Statistics. He is expected to spearhead initiatives to advance Sri Lanka's scientific and technological capabilities.
