01The fourth meeting of the BIMSTEC expert group on establishment of the BIMSTEC Centre for Technology Transfer Facility was held in Colombo on November 21 and 22. The inauguration of the meeting organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Research was held under the patronage of the Minister of Science, Technology and Research. Eight delegates from BIMSTEC Member States- Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, and Thailand attended the Meeting together with a number of delegates representing Sri Lanka. Representing Sri Lanka, the Chairman of the National Science and Technology Commission Professor Jayantha Wijeratne headed the fourth Expert Group meeting and was joined by the Director of the BIMSTEC Secretariat Mr. S.M. Nasmul Hassan. The Meeting finalized the draft text of the Memorandum of Association (MoA) on the Establishment of BIMSTEC Technology Transfer Facility.

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Research has declared the week from 10-17 November as Science Week. A host of programmes geared towards the advancement of the field of science and Technology were implemented during the Science Week under the direction of the Ministry and institutions under its purview.

 

image 01 unctadSecretary General of the United National Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Dr. Mikhisa Kituyi has assured the Minister of Science, Technology and Research Susil Premajayantha that the UNCTAD stands ready to assist with Sri Lanka’s Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Review (STIP) and to explore modalities of technical assistance and a strategy for mobilizing the funding required.

DSC 2377The Ministry of Science and Technology has declared the week from 10-17 November as Science Week to coincide with the celebration of World Science Day which falls on 10 November every year. Denoting the inauguration of the National Science Week, the main commemorative ceremony of World Science Day themed “Science for Global Understanding” was held this morning at D.S. Senanayake College Colombo under the patronage of Minister of Science and Technology Susil Premajayantha. Significantly, with the objective of propagating Science and Technology within the school education system, the main focus of the event was on schoolchildren. Over 1200 schoolchildren were present on the occasion.

vhk 1The opening ceremony of the “Vidatha Haritha Kadamandiya - 2017” A Marketplace to promote the products of small entrepreneurs was held on 26th October 2017 at the ITI premises with the patronage of the Hon. Minister of Science Technology and Research Mr. Susil Premajayantha and Hon. State Minister of Science Technology and Research Mr. Lakshman Senevirathna.
