The State Ministry of Technology and Innovation with the objective of promoting the identity of Moratuwa timber industry, the launch of the 'Moratuwa Lee' brand was held at the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority premises in Katubedda as the first step in transforming Sri Lanka's wood and timber industry to the high tech global export market and transforming Moratuwa as a center of excellence for wood and timber based products through innovation under the patronage of Hon. The Timber Design Center (TDIC) and Timber Processing Innovation Center (TDIC) is to be established with Cabinet approval in collaboration with Coordinating Secretariat for Science Technology and Innovation (COSTI) under the State Ministry of Technology and Innovation and the Universities of Moratuwa and Sri Jayewardenepura to add value to the Sri Lankan Timber Industry. The successful implementation of these centers will enable Sri Lankan wood and timber based products and innovative designs to be introduced to the competitive global market, and will serve as a complete service center for the development of the Sri Lankan timber industry in the future.
